Summary:
- Working with a team of data scientists and software engineers, the Senior Machine Learning (ML) Engineer is responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining advanced ML models within our health system. This position requires a unique combination of experience with ML models as well as systems and software engineering. The Senior ML Engineer has developed expertise in one or more ML sub-domains, is able to triage and refine requests and mentors more junior members of the team.
- Systems and Software Engineering: Leverage open-source tools and frameworks to develop ML systems and software applications. Design and implement scalable and modular software architectures, emphasizing maintainability and extensibility. Develop integrations with health system tools and systems for model deployment. Build software so that stakeholders can monitor ML models and associated systems to ensure operational integrity and performance. Maintain, implement and advance best practices as relevant for the ML engineering discipline. Lead projects, coordinating with other PennDnA teams, as needed.
- Model Development and Deployment: Design, build, integrate, and deploy machine learning models and simulations for various healthcare applications. Applies expertise in machine learning to solve problems and contribute ideas.
- Data Collection and Assessment: Work with data scientists and data engineers to build robust and maintainable data pipelines. Ensure seamless data integration and flow that supports the scalability and efficiency of ML models and analytics platforms.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including data scientists, site reliability engineers, vendors, clinicians, administrators, researchers, and others to define project requirements and develop solutions that meet organizational needs. This collaboration aims not only to advance healthcare technology but also to drive significant improvements in patient outcomes and operational efficiencies, demonstrating the tangible impact of our work. Provide subject matter expert review, guidance and consultation. Build relationships with key stakeholders, including senior leaders.
- Monitoring and Compliance: Design and build tools for active monitoring of models and ML tools. Actively monitor and evaluate the performance and compliance of analytical projects, ML models or research studies, to ensure they meet high standards of quality, effectiveness, and reliability. Oversee the integrity and ethical use of data, adherence to legal and safety standards, and the proactive identification and mitigation of any form of drift or deviation from expected outcomes. Maintain the highest standards of operational and research integrity.
- Continuous Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in workforce management and people analytics. Look for opportunities to optimize the team’s processes and workflows.
- Bachelor's degree is required. Computer science or a related field with a focus on machine learning or data science.
- 3 years' experience developing ML solutions and putting them into production, with a proven track record of leading and executing moderately complex projects with minimal oversight is required.
- 1 years Healthcare analytics, experience with healthcare terminology and operations is preferred.
