Summary:
The Organizational Development Consultant within Penn Medicine Academy’s within Penn Medicine Academy’s change management practice will work to strengthen the organizational health of Penn Medicine by partnering with leaders and teams to deliver specialized consulting services in a highly complex academic medicine environment. This role possesses a mix of expertise in change management, high-performance team development, performance improvement, and strategic planning.
The role reports to the Director of Organizational Development and Change Management and will be part of a high-performance team of organizational development and change management consultants. This individual will formulate strategic approaches and deliver workplans for a diverse range of complex problems. This role will deploy an array of tools and techniques used within our consulting practice. This individual must be comfortable and skilled in figuring out ambiguous situations and can flex workplans in response to challenges or shifting circumstances.
The Organizational Development Consultant will work across entities, departments, and functions to improve ways of working and build new efficiencies. They will partner with clinical and administrative leaders, including the Chief Medical Officers, Chief Quality and Safety Officers, Chief Nursing Officers, Chief Human Resources Officers, Department Chairs, and other leaders throughout Penn Medicine to support the design, development, implementation, and measurement of high-priority health system initiatives. This consultant should have a proven track record of impactful consulting deliverables, the interpersonal savviness to effectively manage client engagements, and collaboration and communications skills.
Accountabilities:
- Consults on concurrent key projects of varying scopes to identify, design, and facilitate improvement initiatives at the system and entity level across our change management, performance improvement, strategic planning, and teaming performance service areas
- Conducts appropriate approaches to collect data to quickly identify the root cause; analyzes and summarizes data in a concise, strategic, easy-to-interpret format.
- Consults leaders relative to system-wide changes to understand the issues and challenges involved in driving change and provides coaching throughout the change process.
- Leverages project management, relevant data, and organizational context to organize and facilitate complex work and maintain partner alignment against the scope of work
- Designs and facilitates highly productive retreats and client events for team development, change planning, performance improvement and strategic planning.
- Manages complicated inter-group dynamics with ease and leverages team assessments and tools to enhance team effectiveness.
- Values learning and integrating new ideas to solve problems and enriches department and team development.
- Designs and deploys tools that scale our ability to support leaders and teams throughout the health system.
- Partners with other experts within Penn Medicine Academy, e.g., Leadership Development, Patient Experience, Training, etc., to provide high-quality interventions in support of complex organizational development initiatives.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity and health system.
Certifications:
- Certification in any organizational development programs or assessment tools, e.g., CliftonStrengths, etc. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification (preferred)
Education/Experience:
- Masters Degree in Business Administration, Organizational Dynamics, Human Resource Management, Public Health, Public Administration, or related area of study (required
- Or 10 years Professional work experience in consulting, change management, organizational development, organizational effectiveness, human resources, strategic planning, performance improvement, or a similar role in a complex organization required.
- 5 Years external consulting experience strongly preferred
