What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pathologists Assistant - DAY SHIFT - Pathology Lab position at Penn State Hershey Health System?
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direct or indirect supervision of a Pathologist, performs the gross examination and sectioning of surgical pathology specimens. Ensures timely completion of processing of all surgical specimens and ensures tissue specimens are processed according to protocols for patient diagnosis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
- Either Bachelor’s Degree from a NACCLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant educational program required or Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field plus two (2) years of experience of on-the-job training as a Pathologists’ Assistant.
- Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex. National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).
- Minimum two (2) years experience: Grossing, Frozen Sections, Dictation, Pathology Specimen Processing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
- ASCP certification preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience as a Pathologists’ Assistant in an academic hospital setting preferred.
- Ability to work independently
- Grossing experience with a vast variety of tissue and organs
