What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tail Stretcher-Night Shift position at Pennex Aluminum Company?
Overview
The Tail Stretcher is responsible for repetitive moving of aluminum extrusions into stretcher jaws. This is a night shift position for 7pm-7am. 3 days on/ 4 days off; 4 days on/ 3 days off.
Responsibilities
- Using metal shear pruners even up lengths of metal making all extrusions the same length as instructed by foreman or Lead Person.
- Move the stretcher to appropriate length, insert the extrusion into the clamp and make sure it is secure before signaling the Head Stretcher to commence stretching operation. Use blocks and gauges when required.
- In conjunction with Head Stretcher, move the extrusions, up to 120 feet, across the walking table to the stretching workstation. Handle metal carefully minimizing scratches and dents.
- Inform Head Stretcher or Foreman/Lead Person immediately if extrusions are still twisted or snaked after the stretch or if you observe any other problems.
- Assist saw crews to maintain production.
- Regularly check all equipment, making sure it is in safe working condition. Report all potential problems or defects to Shift Foremen or Lead Person immediately.
- Maintain a near and orderly work area and assist with the general housekeeping of the Press Department. This includes cut-off lengths of metal from under the cooling table.
- Follow company rules and regulations regarding work and safety practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One or more years' experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to function independently in a fast-paced environment or in a team environment and possess good verbal and written communication skills.
