Pennington Biomedical Research Center , a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Research Specialist in the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory.
The Research Specialist will be responsible for operating and maintaining mass spectrometry instruments, developing and optimizing analytical methods, and preparing and processing biological samples. Key duties include data analysis, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The role also involves preparing supplies and specimens for shipping and contributing to various research projects. Major Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain mass spectrometry instruments, ensuring they are calibrated and functioning correctly.
- Develop and optimize mass spectrometry methods for the analysis of various compounds, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility.
- Prepare and process biological samples for mass spectrometric analysis, including extraction, purification, and concentration, following laboratory protocols.
- Analyze mass spectrometry data using specialized software, interpret results, and generate detailed reports.
- Maintain accurate records of experiments, protocols, and results. Prepare manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations based on research findings.
- Prepare supplies and specimens for shipping.
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, contributing mass spectrometry expertise to various research projects.
- Perform other tasks assigned to support the research programs.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of one year of laboratory experience with mass spectrometry instruments and techniques, which could include internships, coursework, or undergraduate research projects.
- Strong data analysis skills using specialized software.
- Understanding of basic experimental design and data interpretation.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for documenting experiments and collaborating with team members.
- Ability to follow detailed protocols and instructions accurately.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate records and ensuring quality control.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues with guidance from senior staff.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and technologies in mass spectrometry.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of laboratory experience with mass spectrometry instruments and techniques.
