What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Technician 2 position at Pennington County?
• Direct Building Technician 1 staff and assigned inmate/detainee/client workers and contractors in proper methods of care and cleaning inside and outside of the facility.
• Ensure the facility is cleaned and cared for as expected.
• Perform repair tasks such as carpentry, painting and plumbing and repair hand tools, power tools and equipment.
• Supervise laundry and maintenance work to ensure assigned duties are completed.
• Troubleshoot all difficult equipment matters, including kitchen and laundry, prior to contacting outside repair contractor.
• Maintain records relating to the facility care and maintenance.
• Purchase maintenance supplies within allotted budget, monitor tool and chemical inventory and oversee the ordering of supplies, providing quarterly and annual inventory reports to Administration.
• Attend meetings and trainings as required.
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.

• HS Diploma or GED.
• Two years’ work experience in building maintenance preferred.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid South Dakota Driver’s License within 90 days of moving to South Dakota.
Working Environment:
• Work is typically performed in a secure detention facility and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
• This position will be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease and machinery with moving parts.
• Work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
• This position is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
• This position is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat and the risk of electrical shock.
• This position will include close interactions with inmates/detainees/clients.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively on telephone, in-person and in writing.
• Must be able to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance and use hands and arms to reach and feel.
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
