    High School Principal

    Qualifications: A valid K – 12 or Secondary PA Principal’s Certificate with a minimum of five years of instructional experience at any grade K - 12 inclusive.
    Job Summary: As the instructional leader of the school, the principal shall provide effective leadership for the continuous evaluation, development and improvement of the school’s education program. Educational programming should be consistent with the district’s mission, vision and beliefs. The principal is ultimate responsibility to also resolve problems involving staff, students, parents, and the community to promote the mission, vision, beliefs, and goals of the school.

    Major Duties & Responsibilities:
    1. Direct and monitor regular, special and Career & Technical Education programs to ensure student needs and local, state and federal guidelines are met.

    • Work effectively with instructional and non-instructional staff members, students and administrative personnel.
    • Maintain communication with the vocational-technical school director.
    • Provide leadership for the improvement of instruction through observations, conferences, in-service programs and faculty meetings with teachers.
    • Provide input and recommend handbooks for teachers and students outlining rules, procedures, expectations and duties.
    • Prepare and recommend course description books for board approval.
    • Implement board policy and administer district rules and regulations with fairness and consistency.
    • Meet with parents, parental groups, and other outside groups as a school or District representative.
    • Maintain an orderly climate for student learning.
    • Maintain high standards for student conduct and enforce discipline.
    • Make final decisions in cases of pupil grading, failure, retention and advance placement for students in accordance with board policy.
    • Supervise the registration, classification, scheduling, and assignment of students.
    • Prepare an effective master schedule to meet the student needs within the resources of the district in grades 7-12.
    • Manage all aspects of the commencement program.
    • Keep the Superintendent informed about important activities and critical problems.
    • Submit to the Superintendent board agenda items that concern the secondary operation.
    • Communicate staff needs, interests and concerns to central office personnel.
    • Prepare written observation and ratings for teachers guided by board policy.
    • Assign instructional personnel to teaching and non-teaching duties as needed.
    • Supervise the work of office personnel.
    • Assume responsibility for all extracurricular programs including interscholastic athletics. In consultation with the Athletic Director, evaluate the athletic program and coaches.
    • Control the financial operations of student organizations and authorize proper expenditures.
    • Establish procedures for keeping the community informed about in-school activities.
    • Conduct evening open house program for parents and teachers each year.
    • Work with personnel in other educational agencies to meet student needs.
    • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and control expenditures to stay within budgetary limits; involve staff members in the preparation of the budget.
    • Assist the Superintendent in filling instructional, non-instructional and extracurricular vacancies.
    • Monitor the condition of the school physical plant and make recommendations for upkeep and maintenance.
    • Complete local, state and federal reports as requested.
    • Manage building calendar.
    • Direct school improvement initiatives.
    • Monitor and supervise the attendance of all personnel under direct supervision.
    • Enforce compulsory school attendance laws.
    • Act as LEA at special education meetings as necessary.
    • Perform other work assigned by the superintendent or appropriate designee.

    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required in interact with the parents, the public and other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students. Duties and performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.

    • Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks
    • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels
