What are the responsibilities and job description for the Disability and Access Resources Specialist/Staff Interpreter (180-Day) position at Pennsylvania College of Technology?
Overview
The Disability and Access Resources Specialist/Staff Interpreter will provide interpreting/transliteration services for students to ensure communication access with faculty, staff, administrators and other students in all facets of College life. Assess communications needs according to the individuals and settings involved. Interpreting may include use of American Sign Language, use of signed English system, oral interpreting and interpreting for individuals who are deaf/blind. Position follows a 180-day calendar. Some evening and/or weekend hours may be required to meet the needs of students and the College. Occasional travel to other campus sites, seminars, conferences, and etc. may be required. The successful candidate must have and maintain certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and/or National Association of the Deaf (NAD), as well as current registration or eligibility for registration with the PA Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Applicants who possess provisional registration with Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry will be considered.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Associate's Degree in Interpreting or other qualifying experience. Required
- The successful candidate must have and maintain certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and/or National Association of the Deaf (NAD), as well as current registration or eligibility for registration with the PA Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Applicants who possess provisional registration with Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry will be considered. Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of certification. Required
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree in Interpreting or Special Education. Preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- RID - Interpreter For The Deaf Licensure. Required
- NAD (National Association for the Deaf). Required
- NAD-RID (National Interpreter) certification. Required
EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) years of interpreting in a post-secondary education environment. Required
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of, and adherence to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)/National Association of the Deaf (NAD) ethics of interpreting and professional code of conduct. Required
- Knowledge of deafness/hearing loss and the linguistic, social, culture, and developmental effects. Required
- Knowledge of professional practices affecting interpreting. Required
- Skilled in a wide range of sign language systems on abstract and concrete topics. Required
- Ability to work independently and within a team. Required
- Strong organizational skills to effectively work in a multi-tasking environment. Required
- Demonstrated commitment to quality services to students. Required
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups. Required
- Broad knowledge of a variety of academic subjects. Required
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instruction. Required
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Required
- Must possess a valid driver’s license. Required
- Demonstrated knowledge of ADA, Section 504 and other state and federal regulations regarding students with disabilities. Required
- Skilled in C-Print. Required
- Functional ability with or aptitude to learn microcomputer functions. Preferred
