Student, Embedded Tutor, Part-time

Overview

This person will provide support as an embedded tutor in MTH 005 classrooms, tutor students both individually and in small groups, assist students with supplemental learning materials and provide tips or strategies that are supportive to the learning process with the goal of guiding the students to become successful independent learners.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

• Currently Penn College Student. Required
• 3.0 cumulative G.P.A./A's and B's in appropriate courses. Required
• Completion of higher-level courses in appropriate subject area(s). Preferred
• Written or verbal recommendation(s) from instructor(s) of appropriate course(s). Preferred
  
  

Abilities And Skills

• High proficiency in content area(s) tutored and an aptitude to acquire additional skills necessary to support specific student needs related to content. Required
• Ability to tutor in subject for which hired. Required
• Effective oral and written communication skills. Required
• Functional ability with or aptitude to learn microcomputer functions and software tools necessary to function in a face-to-face and remote tutoring environment. Required
• Ability to work independently. Required
  
  

Responsibilities

• Attend assigned MTH 005 classes, participate in classroom learning activities, and follow the direction of the classroom instructor to engage and support students in the classroom.
• Tutor students in an in person or online setting both individually and in small groups.
• Maintain complete and accurate Tutoring Services utilization records.
• Assist students with supplemental learning materials.
• Act as resource in subject specific study strategies to support student's success.
• Attend tutor training specified by the Manager of Tutoring Services.
• Create and maintain a welcoming, safe, and nonjudgmental learning environment.
• Communicate any changes to work schedule in a timely manner.
• Maintain regular communication with supervisor and tutoring staff to stay current on any changes, needs or opportunities within the department.
  
  

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist professional tutor with special programs as needed.
• Refer students to additional campus services as appropriate.

Hourly rate: $12.00.
