Job Summary:
The Phlebotomist will be responsible for accurately and efficiently collecting blood specimens from patients in an outpatient setting. This is a contract position within the University of Pennsylvania Health System, specifically at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania's Pearlman Center of Advanced Medicine Outpatient Lab. The ideal candidate will have strong phlebotomy skills, excellent patient interaction abilities, and a commitment to providing high-quality care.
Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Accurately label and process specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Verify patient identification and ensure accurate documentation of all procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Provide excellent customer service and ensure patient comfort during the blood collection process.
- Respond to patient inquiries and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
- Utilize laboratory information systems for order entry, specimen tracking, and other related tasks.
- Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Phlebotomist, specifically drawing blood.
- Proven proficiency in various phlebotomy techniques.
- Strong understanding of specimen handling and processing requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
