Summary:
An RN or LPN working in the school setting, who is not certified as an Educational Specialist- School Nurse through the Department of Education is considered Supplemental Staff working as part of the healthcare team under the CSN. Essential Duties:

Maintain comprehensive health record on each child and records of school nursing services

Facilitate an organized system of coordinated care for students
-
Review and monitor students immunization status. Make appropriate referrals to update immunizations, when indicated.

Review health information of all USP students and Elementary students and create a critical alert list.

Interpret the health needs of individual children.

Communicate with parents regarding immunization state, health and medication management.

Inform teachers and staff of health conditions that impact student learning or students that will require daily nurse assistance.

Provide medication management as per Pennsylvania Department of Health (PDH) regulations.

Administer medications and perform procedures according to physician orders. Ensure physician orders for individual student medication and/or treatments comply with requirements for administration.

Perform and/or oversee mandated screenings and complete referrals and follow-up, where applicable.

Serve as a resource person to facilitate learning of positive health and wellness behaviors for students and staff.

Arrange to teach in-service medical knowledge to staff (but not limited to) of epi-pens, inhalers, seizure disorders, and diabetic management for school personnel in first aid, emergency procedures and current health issues.

Promote good safety practices, both within and outside of school buildings.

Attend Wellness committee and Health Service meetings.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), medication administration, and safe crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols and in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PDH) regulation

Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team

Demonstrate strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Demonstrate excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions

Demonstrate the ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions.

Experience using/knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) / Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred

Must possess excellent parent/student interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrate intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; and Google Docs.
