Summary :
- The Genetic Counseling Manager is responsible for clinical and / or program management
- Clinical management : responsible for consistent and high quality patient care delivery in the practice; continual assessment of clinical operations to ensure quality and coordination of care; supervision and mentorship of staff; and optimization of the operations of the clinical practice.
- Program management : responsible for the oversight of one or more clinical programs, including management of clinical teams to achieve successful operations of programs. Management and administrative responsibilities should account for 30% to 50% of daily activity.
- The Manager will also provide direct genetic counseling services and care coordination. He or she will provide genetic counseling with an expert application of knowledge and skills in complex situations and provide formal mentorship and education, in addition to supervision of more junior staff.
- The Manager will provide feedback to physicians and leadership on issues regarding the operations, regulations, quality improvement, and other issues impacting clinical practice.
- The Manager is expected to have developed one or more areas of high-level expertise and to employ this knowledge in clinical practice and in mentorship of more junior GCs.
- Professional activities should include those that have an impact beyond the clinic, for example, in one or more other Departments or across the health system; within the local community; or on a national scale through presentations and publications.
Accountabilities :

Fosters an environment where proactive communication and problem solving is expected.
Oversee clinical operations in the practice including budgeting (where applicable), clinical project management, operational planning, quality, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement initiatives
Prepare for cases by identifying relevant medical records and ensuring that these are obtained
Demonstrate proficiency and autonomy in managing complex, cross disease center projects including analysis and interpretation of high-level results o Utilize emerging technologies that may affect clinical care
Identify strategies to increase clinical efficiency
Provides educational lectures to advance understanding of genetics at Penn
