Responsible for Management and Nursing Leadership oversight for the Labor & Delivery unit. Adheres to Nursing Policies and Procedures and Organizational Goals and Objectives. Responsible for the day to day operations of the department in an efficient and cost effective manner. The clinical manager will work collaboratively with other hospital services, medical staff, and administration to ensure that quality patient care is delivered. Actively supervises the quality of care delivered to patients and participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
Accountabilities : Administrative
- Supervises and Manages the Labor & Delivery Department staff.
- Oversees all activities relating to the hiring, orienting and assessment of newly hired Labor & Delivery Staff in conjunction with the Nursing Clinical Educator.
- Observes and maintains records of staff competency at least yearly and conducts all probationary and annual appraisals in a timely manner per hospital policy.
- Organizes and coordinates the daily services of the departments. Sets appropriate priorities, uses time effectively.
- Develops implements and enforces departmental policies and procedures that guide and support the provisions of services.
- Demonstrates financial accountability. Provides input on cost savings and productivity enhancements.
- Communicates regularly with staff on progress toward defined goals / required results. Is open to suggestions and new ideas from staff. Provides specific feedback, coaching and corrective action when necessary.
- Exemplifies superior customer service skills and performs service recovery when appropriate.
- Participates in process improvement activities to support evidence-based practice
- Attends all management meetings and shares information with staff through regularly scheduled departmental meetings and other methods of communication.
- Fosters teamwork among staff. Engage employees in the decision-making process when appropriate and values diversity.
- Demonstrates a collaborative and supportive alignment with the Department Director toward unit goals and initiatives.
