The Psycho-Oncology staff psychologist will provide high quality comprehensive services to patients at Penn Medicine Princeton's Cancer Center. Clinical services including but are not limited to clinical triage, psychosocial evaluations, individual, group and family treatment, treatment plan development and coordination, triage and referral services, and program evaluation. This role will take a leadership role in program development and provide supervision and training. As indicated by the program, the role may also include dedicated research time to support grant applications and ongoing initiatives to promote the goals of the Cancer Center and psycho-oncology service.
This role is responsible for :
Clinical Competency :
a. Demonstrate competency in the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet the psychological and social needs of the program's patient population.
b. Provide age-appropriate care as indicated by the knowledge of the principle of growth and development over the lifespan, and the ability to assess and interpret data, relative to the patient's age.
c. Conduct individual, group and family therapy sessions.
d. Conduct initial evaluation and ongoing assessment of patient functioning as well as risk factors.
Documentation :
a. Document each treatment session in accordance with documentation standards.
b. Complete assessment evaluation and integrated diagnostic summary.
c. Coordinate the development and implementation of the multidisciplinary treatment plan and complete treatment plan reviews within established time frames.
Treatment Team Member
a. Attend treatment rounds, providing input to and being receptive to input from other members of the treatment team.
b. Provide senior level clinical expertise in treatment planning and patient care for assigned program(s).
c. Identify changes in the patients' clinical status and communicate to the appropriate member of the treatment team.
d. Participates in psychology internship training committee, including selection, supervision and training of interns.
e. Provides weekly supervision for psychology practicum students or pre-doctoral interns.
Case Management :
a. Performs case management with internal and external entities for smooth transitions across the continuum of care.
b. Coordinate discharge planning and communicate plan clearly to patient and family and all other providers involved. Complete discharge summaries within established time frames.
c. 100% contact with providers in community involved in patient's care (e.g., therapists, doctors, schools, probation officers, etc.)
d. Outreach to non-attending patients per PHBH policy.
Performance Improvement :
a. Participates in program's Performance Improvement committee and takes a leadership role in completion of PI projects, as agreed upon by the committee.
b. Supports clinical research, program evaluation and / or program development.
c. Coordinates research on best practices and clinical outcomes to inform and improve program components.
d. Assists program director in development and refinement of program content and components.
e. Provides supervision and training as indicated by the needs of the program.
Clinical Research Activity :
a. Submit grant applications to internal and external funding sources in order to build and support clinical research initiatives at the Cancer Center.
b. Present on research topics at local, national, and international conference.
c. Publish in peer-reviewed journals on topics related to psycho-oncology.
Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures. Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
Education Qualifications
- Doctoral Degree - Clinical Psychology and Post Doc (completed postdoctoral training in clinical Psychology)
