Salary Range:            Starting salary of $44,890 

                                                

 

Basic Function


The Criminal Prosecutions Section investigates and prosecutes a complete spectrum of crimes ranging from misdemeanors to first-degree felonies including aggravated assaults, sexual assaults, aggravated assaults, robberies, crimes with handguns, and first-degree murder cases.  This position focuses on the investigation and prosecution of criminal matters involving alleged violations of the laws of the Commonwealth occurring within a public transportation authority that serves as the primary provider of public passenger transportation in a county of the first class (Philadelphia).  The cases stem from a review of investigations and arrests made by Transit Authority police officers and referrals from the Southeastern Public Transit Authority (SEPTA) Police Department.  

 

An employee in this position is responsible for performing duties which include the receipt, analysis, verification, and dissemination of information of a confidential and sensitive nature for a variety of purposes including investigative case support and informing the Attorney General, agents, and management personnel of the OAG; the Pennsylvania legislature; other law enforcement and private sector agencies; and the general public about the breadth and scope of criminal influence affecting Pennsylvania.  Work includes the use of appropriate software applications and databases in the preparation of tactical, operational, and strategic analytical products, and to assist in the preparation of comprehensive tactical, operational, and strategic assessments including written reports, oral presentations, visual illustrations, and charts for dissemination within and outside of the OAG.  Employees in this position read and research publications on various criminal elements to develop and maintain a useful reservoir of knowledge of general patterns, trends, and scopes of crime.  Employees must comply with all requirements of the Criminal History Records Information Act (CHRIA) and 28 C.F.R. 



  • Provides investigative support through the collection and analysis of information from a variety of databases including driver’s license/registration records, criminal history records, warrant checks, gun registration, employment and financial records, etc. to develop inferences about criminal activities, key individuals, methods of operation, and the extent of criminal influence
  • Provides pre-operational planning assistance to assist with warrant executions
  • Assists with the execution of search warrants for the purpose of gathering intelligence information
  • Reviews investigative reports to assist in identifying intelligence gaps and additional targets, associates, and assets to further criminal investigations
  • Analyzes toll records during criminal investigations
  • Assists with the analysis of financial documents during criminal investigations to assist in identifying money laundering violations and in identifying, locating, and assisting in the seizure of illegal proceeds
  • Provides assistance with the proactive targeting of criminal activity through the use of various law enforcement, financial, social media, and other open sources
  • Collaborates with analysts from other agencies in order to effectively share information and ensure timely coordination during periods of heightened threat
  • Assists with the monitoring of daily open source and sensitive information systems to obtain near real-time criminal threat information as well as comprehensive threat assessments and reports produced by other agencies in the region and around the nation
  • Assists with accurately identifying and effectively communicating information collection requirements and providing timely and relevant critical feedback to collection resources (OAG agents and analysts, local and state investigators, etc.)
  • Provides assistance to law enforcement staff by compiling data from agents, law enforcement agencies, confidential informants and sources, the media, and other sources to detect organizational structures, trends, and movements of criminal factions including modus operandi, tradecraft, etc.
  • Assists with collecting and analyzing information from various sources to predict the capabilities, intentions, and vulnerabilities of organized criminal groups including assessments and recommendations
  • Writes reports of analysis and/or investigative findings for use in investigations, criminal complaints, and search and arrest warrants
  • Assists with providing accurate, timely, and predictive analysis to OAG leadership in order to better deter, detect, and/or prevent credible criminal threats to the Commonwealth
  • Collects and analyzes data from multiple sources, including investigative reports, to assist with identifying current and emerging criminal trends, patterns, and associations
  • Uses electronic data processing systems to research, analyze, and store data
  • Assists with providing assessments of current criminal threats to guide leadership on enforcement techniques and resource allocation
  • Assists with the production of a spectrum of threat-related intelligence products for use by OAG leadership, decision-makers, and operations personnel, including ad hoc and periodic criminal threat bulletins, weekly threat summaries, ad hoc tactical briefs, long-term threats assessments, etc.
  • Testifies in court proceedings and grand jury proceedings regarding analytical findings
  • Performs other duties as assigned 


  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Intelligence Analysis Studies, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related course of study OR
  • Four years of relevant experience that would afford the individual the needed knowledge and skills to perform the job OR
  • Any combination of relevant education, training, and experience that would enable the individual to perform the duties of the job

Salary : $40,900 - $44,890
