Position Title: Instrumentation Technician
Schedule: Pitman, Full Time
Reports To: Electrical and Controls Supervisor / Maintenance Manager
Goal of Position: The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of electrical equipment within the facility. This role involves responding to maintenance calls, supporting production operations, and proactively identifying potential issues.
Role Duties –
- Maintenance & Repair
· Perform routine maintenance checks on electrical equipment, identify and repair faults, replace faulty components, and ensure proper system functionality.
· Utilize SCADA and PLC systems for troubleshooting to reduce downtime.
- Troubleshooting & System Monitoring
· Understand the operation and function of level sensors, discrete and analog sensors, temperature devices, and how the connect to the plant automated system.
· Test and replace analog (4-20mA signal devices) and discrete sensors (photoelectric, proximity, etc.).
· Use a thermal imaging camera to verify connections and ensure safe operating temperatures of manual motor starters and VFD enclosures.
- Troubleshooting & System Monitoring
· Understand the operation and function of level sensors, discrete and analog sensors, temperature devices, and how the connect to the plant automated system.
· Test and replace analog (4-20mA signal devices) and discrete sensors (photoelectric, proximity, etc.).
· Use a thermal imaging camera to verify connections and ensure safe operating temperatures of manual motor starters and VFD enclosures.
- Preventative Maintenance
· Conduct grounding verification, emergency lighting checks, fuse verification, and motor winding inspections.
· Maintain accurate records, including work orders and daily logs, within the CMMS system.
- Emergency Response
· Address power outages, electrical hazards, and other emergencies that arise during the shift.
· Submit parts and tool requests as needed.
- Equipment Adjustments
· Adjust level sensors, pressure transducers, speeds, and temperature sensors as necessary for equipment replacement.
- Safety & Compliance
· Follow all electrical safety regulations and use proper personal protective equipment.
· Ensure installations comply with NEC standards.
- Shift Handover
· Communicate ongoing and major issues to the incoming shift, shift lead, and electrical/controls supervisor.
- Requirements
· · Experience with electrical components in a food processing facility (motors, VFDs, proximity sensors, pressure sensors, radar level sensors, 3-phase disconnects, etc.).
· Strong ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and blueprints.
· Proficiency with electrical tools and testing equipment (multimeter, process meter, Meg-O-Meter).
· Good communication and teamwork skills.
· Good Understanding of PLC and SCADA function / Operation. Utilize SCADA to detect and correct issues with operation as they arise.
