Position is full time, day shift salaried position.
SCOPE: This position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and is responsible for setting and supporting the organization’s strategic direction for quality improvement. The incumbent provides ongoing education and support for all staff of each department by encouraging quality improvement efforts in their everyday working environment.
JOB FUNCTIONS
A. Quality Improvement - Responsibilities
- Responsible for the integration of Quality Improvement throughout the organization. Develops and revises as necessary the Hospital-wide QI plan consistent with regulatory requirements and the Hospital’s strategic plan.
- Collect and tabulate data on quality indicators.
- Prepares timely reports on quality improvement activities and data, including data required by regulatory agencies.
- Assists Department Managers, Directors and Physicians with identification of key areas of performance priority, development of service standards, indicator formulation, benchmarking, monitoring methods, investigation, development of conclusions, and planning required action and follow up.
- Provide leadership in interdisciplinary training, development and quality improvement processes that contribute to high performance services and teams.
- Coordinates arrangements for QI Committee meetings and agenda development.
- Participates and facilitates as other teams, as indicated.
- Participates in medical record reviews and maintains record confidentiality.
- Facilitates staff education and provides necessary resources.
- Attends meetings and represents PVH at outside meetings.
- Receives reporting data from department managers and prepares quarterly and semi-annual reports for QI committee meetings.
- Prepares quarterly/annually QI summaries for the Board.
- Maintains files of departmental and deviation/occurrence reports. Ensures the confidentiality of QI data.
- Orients new managers and directors to the QI program.
- Will participate in Quality Improvement education initiatives and be a resource for problem solving tools. Will assess and facilitate PVH QI education as indicated
- Performs special QI projects as assigned by QI Committee or the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Provides effective leadership and direction to QI department staff. Supports and enforces PVH policies and procedures.
- Manages all categories of provider credentialing ensuring regulatory requirements are met and quality performance monitoring is in place.
- Collaborates with Infection Control Officer and Patient Safety Officer to meet reporting requirements to required external agencies.
Quality Improvement:
Actively participates in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, actively supports and implements Department specific Quality improvement initiatives and projects, recommends process improvement as appropriate, reports any quality issues in service delivery and consistently commits to a focus on quality improvement and organizational excellence.
Emergency Management: As an employee of Penobscot Valley Hospital, the position has an inherent role in caring for our community members when in need. To this regard, the incumbent will be expected to participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested. When called upon during a real-life disaster/emergency event, the incumbent will be expected to participate in the Hospital’s response to this event, within the scope of professional and personal ability to do so.
Requirements
RN required; bachelor’s degree preferred. 2-4 years increasing responsible experience in Quality/Performance Improvement, Infection Control, or other related health care field required. Knowledge of statistics and performance improvement and analysis methods; project management; experience with computers required. Effective communication skills and experience in providing staff/provider education.
