What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletic Director position at Penske Racing South?
Team Penske is looking for an Athletic Director to oversee the coaches, pit crews, and training regiments for it's racing programs including NASCAR, IndyCar and IMSA.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and review pit department personnel including coaches, staff and pit crew members.
- Work with upper management to structure and continuously improve the department.
- Work with engineering to continuously improve the technical performance and function of the pit stop equipment.
- Work with recruiting team on strategy and process for future staffing of the pit crews.
- Work with coaches and Sports Performance Coach to structure pit crew workouts and practice schedule.
- Oversee and help to develop team practices and strengthening programs.
- Work with upper management and Human Resources on pit crew agreements and payment.
- Accountable for reporting of pit stop performance to upper management and ownership.
- Accountable for submitting and maintaining a departmental budget.
- Work with coaches to evolve the pit stop analysis and coaching techniques.
- Develop standards and conduct testing for team member performance measurements.
- Liaise with other teams to outsource development crew members.
- Must be a liaison between Team Penske pit crew and external groups; i.e. sanctioning body, media, sponsors, etc.
- Work with Admin on continuously developing the practice and workout facility to suit developmental needs.
- Required travel to at least 5 races pers season, spanning the entire season.
- Required to travel as needed for recruiting and benchmarking as needed at the Cup, NXS, or other level races.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of coaching in a college-level or higher sports environment is preferred.
- 4 year college degree preferred.
- Basic automotive and/or racing knowledge and experience is a plus.
- Administrative experience in a sports environment is preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to kneel, stand or squat for extended periods of time.
