What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Chemist position at Pentagon Technologies?
Summary:
Pentagon Technologies is looking for a Lab Chemist for our ICP-MS Laboratory! This position is responsible for overseeing all of the analytical instruments, tools, data control, reporting of results, and of all lab technicians within both the ICP-MS and LPC departments. You will lead and mentor the laboratory technicians with their analytical testing of samples drawn from raw materials such as parts, liquids, and extractions, as well as throughout the entire production process to the finished product for QA approval per specification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes but is not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Preparing solutions: Follows all safety rules and is comfortable with handling and storage of all ICP-MS Lab chemicals (Nitric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, Acetone, Isopropyl Alcohol, Hydrofluoric Acid). Accurately prepares standard solutions, rinse solutions, and labware cleaning solutions, and understands the calculations involved with making these solutions.
Perform Cleanroom Housekeeping: Mastery of all aspects related to cleanroom cleaning of all surfaces, including daily cleans, super-cleans, airborne particle counts, and organization of materials/equipment/tools.
Staging of Parts: Will be required to perform any logging in of parts. Communicates with the lab team when new parts arrive or when parts need to be picked up.
Acid drop scanning: Understands and follows the scanning procedure, especially the cleanliness protocols. Creates DMRs as necessary. Recognizes the majority of regular production parts, their typical priority levels, and their scanning locations.
Trained in the LPC process and operation: Completely knowledgeable and certified in the LPC instrument.
Competent in Inventory Management: Knowledgeable of keeping inventory at proper min/max levels, communicates with Supply Chain buyers and cage employees about department usage rates, picks up additional supplies from cage or cleanroom garment pick-up area, completes proper forms to pull supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education / Experience:
- Recommended: A bachelor’s degree in science; preferably chemistry.
Certifications / Licenses / Registrations:
- Must complete the 24-hour Health and Safety Training for Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility. Workers must attend all QA and Safety mandatory meetings.
Knowledge / Abilities / Skills:
- Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills
- Organizational and time management abilities

- Proven ability to carry out written, oral, or diagram form instructions.
- Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Willing and able to work non-production hours as necessary.
- Standing for long periods
- Ability to read and comprehend internal documents such as work order travelers, inventory records, logs, and general company records.
- Medium computer skills and college-level algebra
SAFETY:
The employee will be trained in all general safety requirements of Pentagon Technologies as well as specific safety regulatory requirements and is to lead by example,
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to function well in an office environment. Must also be able to work in a controlled chemical and wastewater environment. Must also be able to perform in a laboratory environment. Persons who are sensitive to chemical environments with such medical conditions as asthma, allergies, or extreme sensitivity to chemicals may not be considered good candidates for this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must pass Company required screening tests. The employee is regularly required to sit and stand, reach with hands and arms, and perform light routine office work, which includes computer workstation usage.
Should be able to pick up 60lbs on an occasional or regular basis.
