Pentecom is seeking a skilled and motivated software engineer to join our growing development team and transform XML data into high-quality PDF publications. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations) and XSL-FO (Formatting Objects) for structured document processing. Experience with Python for automation, data manipulation, or workflow integration is highly desirable. Additionally, familiarity with S1000D, iSpec 2200, and/or military specifications (mil-specs) for technical publications is a plus.
Please note the software engineer - XSLT/XSL-FO position is a full-time, remote position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain XSLT transformations to process XML data.
- Implement XSL-FO stylesheets to generate high-quality PDF outputs.
- Work with XML-based publishing workflows to ensure efficient document generation.
- Optimize and troubleshoot XSLT/XSL-FO transformations for performance and accuracy.
- Automate document processing tasks using Python.
- Collaborate with consulting and conversion teams to provide technical expertise and collaboration for the following:
- Determine project requirements and develop automated solutions used in technical data conversion processes.
- Problem solving and recommendations for appropriate corrective action for technical issues.
- Retrieving data and developing customized reports to be used for operations analysis.
- Work with structured documentation standards such as S1000D, iSpec 2200, and military specifications (mil-specs) for compliance-driven publishing.
Skills and Experience:
- Strong expertise in XML, XPath, and XSLT (1.0, 2.0, or 3.0) for XML data transformation.
- Hands-on experience with XSL-FO for professional PDF generation.
- Experience with XSL-FO processors such as Apache FOP, RenderX XEP, or Antenna House Formatter.
- Solid understanding of document layout, formatting, and pagination rules.
- Experience with S1000D, iSpec 2200, and military specifications (mil-specs) for structured technical publications.
- Proficiency in Python for automating XML processing and integration with publishing workflows.
- Experience with XML schema validation (XSD, DTD).
- Knowledge of version control systems (Git, SVN).
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or technical manual publishing environments.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2 years of professional experience in XSLT/XSL-FO development.
