Job Overview:
The Special Education Program Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Student Services. Additionally, the Special Education Program Coordinator works cooperatively with building administration and other program directors / department chairpeople in the provision of special education services in the schools. The following is an outline of the role and responsibilities, which is intended to provide a broad overview, but is subject to change according to the needs of the school district, as required by the Superintendent of Schools.

Coordinator of Special Education
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement policies, procedures, plans and directives promulgated by the Pentucket Regional School Committee and required by state and federal laws and regulations.
- Assist in the recruitment and recommendation of personnel for positions in the Special Education Department. Provide induction and mentoring of new staff.
- Work with principals to schedule teachers and paraprofessional staff.
- Assist staff with development of Educator Plans and Professional Development Plans.
- Monitor and evaluate teaching/related staff assigned to programs/schools.
- Confer with other administrators to design, develop and implement appropriate professional development opportunities consistent with the goals of the school department and staff needs.
- Conduct Department/Staff meetings.
- Facilitate opportunities for parent engagement and parent support training.
- Provide school based oversight of special education evaluations, student placement, and curriculum development.
- Stay current with formal evaluation tools and therapeutic methods to insure effective use of valid tests and practices that are evidence-based.
- Assist with program planning and development, including the designs of policies and procedures for new or revised Special Education programs or activities.
- Monitor and evaluate special education programs to ensure that objectives for student education are met.
- Coordinate and recommend the selection of texts, tests, and other learning materials.
- Identify, review, revise or develop instructional methodologies to promote the learning of students.

Interpret laws, rules, and regulations to students, parents, and staff.
Provide consultation to service providers and attendance at Team meetings, mediation, or hearings when needed. - Prepare reports and other documentation for DESE required reports and reviews.
- Monitor building staff to maintain compliance with district procedures, regulations, and laws, including EASY IEP implementation and compliance monitoring.
- Oversee Special Education evaluation process, IEP development, monitoring compliance-IEP implementation, progress, reports, and record keeping for DESE reporting.
- Monitoring of district compliance with Massachusetts DESE regulations.
- Collaborate with principals in the administration of state mandated testing sessions and with the preparation of Alternate MCAS Portfolios-provide training as necessary.
- Assist with district preparation and oversight of Home Training and Extended School Day
- Facilitate the Extended School Year programs, including the hiring, induction, and mentoring of staff to effectively implement programs.
- Implement or assist with regulatory requirements related to discipline of special education students.
- Transition planning PK to elementary, elementary to middle school, middle to high, HS to post HS - design and implement procedures to address regulations, facilitate development of student and parent programs.
- Coordination with state agencies (DCF, DDS, DMH, Et.al).
- Prepare detailed and documented budget recommendations.
- Other duties and activities as deemed necessary by the Director of Student Services.
- Assist with Out of District case management.
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires the candidate hold an active Massachusetts Administrator of Special Education License or a Supervisor/Director license paired with a special education related license.
- Candidates with experiences with special populations and program designs are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Candidate experience should include a minimum of 3 years employed in a special education related leadership position.
- Degree Preferred: Masters
- Experience Preferred: 4 years
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Work Year: 199 days (school year plus an additional 15 days)
