Kitchen Staff
Job Overview:
This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school's financial operations, maintaining accurate records and providing financial data to support informed decision-making
Qualifications:
- High School diploma.
- The ability to effectively interact with students, staff and administration
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to handle stressful situations;
- Ability to show initiative.
- Flexibility is a must.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.
Duties and Responsibilities
Meal Preparation
- Preparing foods in accordance to the dietary guidelines and menu specifications “quality controls” including sampling foods to make sure taste and texture are acceptable. Implements “just in time and/or batch cooking” to preserve food quality.
- Ensure that all meals are served at the appropriate temperatures and times.
- All foods should be presented in a visually pleasing manner.
- Conforms to all safe food handling, storage, and sanitation methods in accordance with the current local, state and federal guidelines.
- Prepares food according to the recipes and directions provided by the KitchenManager and/or Director. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of portion control and can identify proper portion utensils. Follow standardized recipes; measures and weighs ingredients according to instructions; assembles food and other supplies necessary to prepare recipes.
- Is familiar with the use and care of all kitchen equipment (including steamer, meat slicer, large kettles, ovens, bread slicer and microwave).
Meal/Customer Service
- Serves meals prepared to students and staff.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment by practicing a “clean as you go” technique.
- Takes the initiative to cleans up kitchen area, dish sink area, equipment, supplies, food storage areas (cold and dry) areas etc. without the need of constant reminders.
- Informs Manager when food/supplies are getting low and need to be ordered.
- Rotates stock (FIFO) and puts away food and supplies as deliveries are expected.
- Assists Kitchen Manager in recording of monthly inventory in taking and recording of monthly inventory.
- Attends in-service training and workshops as well as other staff meetings as scheduled.
- Maintains accurate account of each sale- receives cash & checks, maintains a daily roster and balances drawer against register tape and cash out slip at the end of the day.
- Is knowledgeable of appropriate use of products, daily menus, specials, promotions and current pricing.
- Performs all other tasks and projects as instructed.
Other Expectations
- Works as a team player and willing to help others complete tasks to make sure meals are served on time.
- Responds well to constructive criticism and changes in regulations and/or assignments.
- Demonstrates knowledge and willingness to undertake a work assignment without
supervision.
- Reports to work on time, as scheduled, and maintains a good attendance record.
- Capable of lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Able to perform simple math functions.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- May be required to serve as manager during that individual’s absence.
