POSITION: PUBLIC HEALTH INTERN (SUMMER 2025)
Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD) is seeking a Public Health Emergency Preparedness Intern to join our team. In this role, you will enjoy a flexible work environment, where you can improve public health emergency readiness and enhance the effectiveness of the health department. This is a summer 2025 internship based out of our Hastings, MI office.

In this Public Health Emergency Preparedness Intern role, you will have the opportunity to:
1. Support the coordination and implementation of emergency preparedness drills and exercises.
2. Help develop educational materials for community emergency preparedness.
3. Shadow Environmental Health staff during field inspections and water sampling activities.
4. Observe Clinical Health Services operations and participate in community outreach events.
5. Participate in team meetings across multiple departments.
6. Assist with creation of reports of grant activities and emergency preparedness initiatives.
7. Assist in updating and reviewing emergency response plans and procedures for public health emergencies.
Ideal Candidates qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in public health, emergency management, epidemiology, health education, health promotion, health communications, or a related field; or completion of degree within the past 12 months
- Interest in emergency preparedness, public health operations, and community resilience
- Available for 20 hours of work per week
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel for business throughout the district
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
