As an Underwriting Supervisor, you will help lead, train, and coach our team of skilled underwriters while overseeing daily underwriting operations, conducting quality review audits, and monitoring production. A successful candidate will possess a get-it-done attitude, with strong leadership and critical thinking skills, effective written and verbal communications, and have a deep understanding of the ever-changing Florida property insurance market.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Leading
- Effectively communicate with underwriters and agents regarding a variety of questions pertaining to new business submissions, reinstatements, inspections, policyholder communications, billing information, cancellations, endorsement requests, and required documents.
- Supervises the underwriting function to ensure timely processing and proper risk selection.
- Provide advanced underwriting expertise with policy review analysis or procedure questions.
- Work independently and manage changing priorities effectively.
- Proactively resolve issues with strong skills in problem-solving and resourcefulness.
- Function in a team environment and when needed, share responsibility for incoming calls and chats.
- May handle special projects and perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Training
- Identify training needs and assist in designing training programs for the department.
- Compile training material and present information in-person and virtually to team members.
- Assist with creating, maintaining, and updating SOPs and templates.
- Participate in hiring, training, crucial conversations, and providing input for and participating in performance evaluations of team members.
Auditing
- Recommend and consult on overall process improvements to the leadership team as necessary.
- Perform weekly assigned number of audits.
- Monitor and report processing and performance standards of the team on phone calls and chats.
- Provide input on underwriting team performance and recommend opportunities for advancement or, when necessary, employment corrective actions.
Qualifications and Skills:

- Minimum 5 years of underwriting, management, agency sales, and/or related insurance experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry.
- A Bachelor's or Associate's Degree (or equivalent experience) is preferred.
- Must possess a 4-40 Customer Service Representative, 2-20 General Lines, or 20-44 Resident Personal Lines License. Professional certifications and designations are beneficial.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of underwriting practices and is confident in their underwriting judgement and ability to assess risk.
- A proven track record of leading, training, and/or developing a team.
- Focuses on achieving goals and gaining efficiencies, driven to be a high performer.
- Feels a strong desire to see others succeed, contributes to a positive work environment, effectively establishes rapport, and develops productive work relationships.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions in a group setting or one-on-one.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and online search skills required.
- Availability to work extended/additional hours during storm season, if necessary
- While not a requirement, being bilingual is a highly preferred skill for the position.
** This is an onsite role in Deerfield Beach, so candidates must be local or open to relocating to sunny South Florida!
