Description
Position Title: Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Technician
Location: Fort Knox, KY
Clearance Type: SECRET
Compensation: $35.41/hr.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Provide daily customer service, troubleshooting, and programming for all LMR infrastructure and subscriber equipment.
- Completes mobile installs, mobile removals, desktop installs, and desktop relocations.
- Provides emergency response within two (2) hours.
- Communicates reports to the government LMR Manager.
- Coordinates with representatives for the performance of operation and maintenance actions and activities associated with an established external maintenance agreement.
- Coordinates with the government LMR Manager for issuance and maintenance of cryptography keys and codes to support mission requirements.
Qualifications
Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification
- OSHA Confined Space
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
- At least one of the following:
- Certified Telecom Network Specialist (CTNS), or
- Certified Wireless Communications Professional (CWCP), or
- Certified RF Engineer (CRFE)
Knowledge and Experience:
- 5 years of experience in LMR system design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Proficient in installation, repair, alignment, and maintenance of analog and digital trunked radio communications systems.
- Experience managing large-scale LMR deployments for public safety, utilities, or military sectors.
- Expertise in multi-site LMR systems, including simulcast and multicast technologies.
- Hands-on experience with vendor systems (e.g., Motorola, Harris, Tait, Kenwood, EF Johnson).
- Proven ability to lead teams and work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience conducting FCC spectrum licensing and frequency coordination.
- Strong knowledge of RF theory, LMR technologies, and antenna systems.
- Proficiency in designing and configuring trunked and conventional radio systems.
- Experience with P25, TETRA, DMR, or other LMR standards.
- Understanding of encryption protocols and secure communications.
- Proficient in software tools such as radio system programming applications, RF coverage analysis tools (e.g., ATDI, EDX SignalPro), and spectrum analyzers.
- Familiarity with IP-based networking and VoIP integration.
- Experience with equipment involving microwave (M/W) radio, digital and analog multiplex equipment, receivers and transmitters, digital and analog receiver voting systems, timing/synchronization oscillator systems, simulcast control systems, computer control systems, Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) console switches, consoles, and mobile and portable radio equipment.
- Experience with inventory control and record keeping by maintaining a database to track the allocated radios for the LMR system to include desktop base stations, vehicular mounted mobiles, and handheld radios using all manufacturer software necessary for any and all subscriber equipment operating on the L3HARRIS P25IP system.
- Keeps abreast of all updates and changes to firmware and software and ensure they communicate with L3HARRIS Technical Assistance Center (TAC), on any changes and updates.
- Familiar with software from other vendors for programming and maintenance specifically MOTOROLA and BKRELM products.
