The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include, but are not limited to: • Will serve as AOD on a rotating basis.• In Collaboration with Talent Development and Training, develop In-service education and training designed to upgrade the knowledge and skills of nursing staff, professional and nonprofessional staff.• Ensuring facility compliance and nursing care standards under various accreditation standards for nursing (i.e. DOH, Federal Government 483 regs, OSHA, SED/MOU).• Oversight to Infection Control.• Provide technical assistance to Voluntary Agencies.• Oversight of Medication Errors, including tracking, trending, and proactive efforts to provide for safe and effective medication administration.• Reviews Death Investigations-Completes POCA from Statewide Mortality review as needed.• Assist with completing Death Investigation Reports as needed.• Directly supervise RN Supervisors, Training Nurse 2, and Infection Control Nurse, and indirectly supervises the Nursing Department.• Assists with implementing and developing Statewide nursing initiatives, policies and procedures, etc.• Assists with recruitment and retention of nursing staff and ancillary staff within the department, including constructing RTFs, developing postings, assisting with interview process, etc.• Indirectly oversees the Respiratory Protection Program (RPP).• Indirectly oversees the PCREE Program.• Oversees PlusTrac AED database, including updating responder CPR/first aid/AED trainings, assisting with entering any uses, assisting in obtaining loaners, monitoring stock consumable supplies (batteries, pads), etc.• Assists the DDSO with reviewing nursing related SODs. Assists with development and implantation of POCAs to remedy deficiencies.• Works in conjunction with nursing department to run medical emergency drills and simulations.• Collaborates with external healthcare facilities, academic institutions, vendors, etc., to identify training modules and seminars to improve knowledge and skills for DDSO nursing and medical staff.• Collaborates with the Business Office to procure contract nursing candidates, including developing the RFQ, selecting the OGS vendor, etc.• Develops and updates nursing care and nursing related policies and procedures.• Provide interpretation of nursing issues and concerns to the director and other members of the executive staff.• Assist with the resolution of issues raised during Incident Review (ex: retraining).• Plan, establish and maintain standards of nursing care. • Initiation and maintenance of formal contracts, letters of agreement with health care and collaborative educational facilities or other affiliations.• In collaboration with Talent Development and Training, develop in-service education programs and participate in training designed to upgrade the knowledge and skills of nursing staff, professional and nonprofessional staff. • Advising and counseling of managers in recruitment and selection of nursing staff and assignment and placement of staff.• Assistance with oversight and selection of purchase of medical equipment and expenditures for environmental safety needs.• Development and oversight of systems for monitoring nurses working under temporary limited permits. • Assistance in evaluation of nurses who need clinical supervision.• Special supervision/direction to nursing staff when performance or disciplinary problems need resolution.• Ensuring compliance under Nurse Practice Act.• Ensuring facility compliance and nursing care standards under various accreditation standards for nursing (i.e., DOH, Federal Government, OSHA.).• Interpretation and implementation of pharmacy regulations with regards to nursing staff.• Participation in Statewide Nursing Committees/Meetings (ex: Statewide Nurse Management Meeting).• Serves as member of Senior Management Committee, ensuring the Senior Management Team is apprised of any departmental updates and changes.• Submits monthly staffing reports to HR.• Participation in Quality Assurance compliance activities, interpretation of regulations.• Collaboration with medical department and outside health care agencies to coordinate and improve quality of nursing care on campus and in the community at large.• Collaboration and participation in environmental rounds as needed. • Works with Medical Clinic coordinating various projects (ex: Podiatry Clinic).• Participates in campus emergencies as part of the Emergency Response Team. • Reviews emergency flow sheet for all medical emergencies.
