The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION: This Rehab Assistant 2 will serve as a second-level paraprofessional and assist in the vocational and social rehabilitation of specific individuals currently residing in SOIRAs in Broome and/or Tioga Counties. They will conduct preliminary evaluations of potential and existing capacities and interests, assess individuals’ abilities to follow directions and work with peers and supervisors to plan and conduct rehabilitation activities and programs. This position will lead to greater opportunities for the individuals being served through the development and implementation of routines and goals for individuals, ensuring maximal integration of individuals, evaluating progress with the goal of facilitating transition into less restrictive or more advanced program areas, ensuring attainable goals and plans, documenting changes to plans, developing plans based on needs identified by the treatment team and limitations of agency resources. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provides supportive counseling.• Provides mentoring and coaching.• Assists Habilitation staff in the daily implementation of group activities in vocational and psychosocial areas.• Prepares schedules and programs and arranges for necessary resources.• Arranges transportation if needed.• Implements service and Behavior Support plans.• Identifies individual’s progress and growth through the recording of observed behavior and performance in various activities.• Observes individual’s work habits and consults with other work site staff.• Assists Habilitation Staff by gathering and distributing materials and supplies required to conduct group activities.• Attends training in day programming, behavior support, and other related topics.• Participates with other habilitation staff in regular, periodic reviews of programs.• Attends and contributes to meetings to review individuals’ work attitudes, behavior, performance, and attendance.• Develops and implements routines and goals for individuals to increase attending behavior and acceptance of guidance.• Evaluates overall progress to ensure transition into either less restrictive or more advanced program areas.• Keeps daily records of attendance and performance.• Evaluates plans and goals to ensure that they are current and attainable and notes any significant changes or events.• Develops plans and routines based on needs identified by the treatment team and limitations of available program areas and agency resources.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/nys-office-for-people-with-developmental-disabilities/posts/?feedView=all#LI-KT1

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Candidates must be current in title,• Eligible for 70.1 transfer, or• Reachable on the NYS Civil Service Eligible List for this title.• Non-Competitive appointment may be considered.Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications: Rehabilitation Assistant 1 One year of experience assisting individuals with daily living skills and habits; taking care of their personal needs; and ensuring a comfortable home environment. Rehabilitation Assistant 2 Two years of experience assisting individuals with daily living skills and habits; taking care of their personal needs; and ensuring a comfortable home environment.

Additional Comments Please note that the starting salary for this title reflects hiring salary for PEF Grade 11 ($44,169), and the job rate ($66,634) for PEF Grade 14. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.• If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.• The assignment of PS&T employees will be made in accordance with any agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding between PEF and the local DDSO regarding the posting of job vacancies.• Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures. If you are being impacted by closure, please indicate this on your resume. • All OPWDD employees must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility. • If you are employed by state government you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF). The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments have been made under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.
