Duties Description The NYS Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities (IBR) is seeking a qualified and compassionate developmental specialist for a Part-Time Research Scientist III position in our Infant Development Department. The department’s research focuses on understanding the links between early central nervous system disturbances and behavioral outcomes, with an emphasis on early identification of neurodevelopmental risks, especially for autism spectrum disorder. The candidate will take part in our projects, currently include telehealth developmental screening in general population, developing biomarkers like auditory brainstem responses (ABR) and EEG to aid in early diagnosis, utilizing AI, machine learning, and GIS to analyze 30 years of archival data. In addition to IBR George Jervis’s Specialty Clinic, the departmentStaten Island DDSO Human Resources1150 Forest Hill Road, Staten Island, NY 10314 ¦ TEL: 718-983-5433 ¦www.opwdd.ny.govcollaborates closely with the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Department at the Richmond University Medical Center to further its research goals.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES not limited to: •Conduct standardized developmental assessments for infants and young children in person and via telehealth to identify developmental delays or disabilities.•Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, psychologists, developmental specialists, and research scientists, in developmental research projects and assessments•Participate in research efforts related to infant development, including observational studies, neurodevelopmental assessments, and experimental research methodologies.•Contribute to the design and implementation of research projects related to infant development, including preparing research protocols and conducting data collection.•Provide resources, and support to families navigating developmental challenges.•Maintain accurate and timely records of assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans in compliance with state, federal, and IRB regulations.•Stay current with best practices in early childhood development, assessment techniques, and early intervention strategies. The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and four years of professional research experience in the area(s) of biomedical, applied behavioral and/or developmental psychology, or a related field Substitutions: Master's Degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience and a Ph. D in an appropriate field maysubstitute for an additional year of experience. PREFERRED SKILLSoProficient in using statistical software (e.g., STATA, SPSS, R) for analyzing developmental data.oStrong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with families and children.oAbility to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.oProficient in writing research papers, grant proposals, and creating presentations for academic and non-academic audiences.oStrong communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with other healthcare professionals, educators, and research teams.Additional Requirements: •Clear background check as required by state law.•Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed.•Compliance with any additional state-specific licensing or certification requirements.•Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to home visits or community-based services.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSA doctoral degree in biomedical, applied behavioral and/or developmental psychology, or a related field and one year of qualifying experience may be substituted for experience requirements.
