Scope of Position
The Associate Food Scientist provides technical support to various departments, including Marketing, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Research & Development. This hands-on role involves working across multiple teams to develop new products, enhance existing formulations, and explore cost-saving opportunities. Additionally, this position serves as a technical liaison with manufacturing facilities to ensure food safety and quality, primarily focusing on leavening products.
Under the guidance of a Manager or Senior Food Scientist, the Associate Food Scientist contributes to developing new products and processes that drive business growth while meeting performance, financial, and timeline objectives.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Manufacturing teams to monitor and optimize process parameters, reducing variation and improving process control.
Assist in developing new products that align with cost targets, product claims, and consumer expectations while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Support evaluating current products and research new technologies to enhance product quality and performance.
Review and update product standards, specifications, and compliance requirements to align with regulatory and customer expectations.
Participate in new product development efforts by coordinating manufacturing trials and providing hands-on support during scale-up production.
Conduct stability and shelf-life testing to assess product performance over time.
Stay informed on industry advancements by attending relevant scientific seminars and technical meetings.
Maintain accurate documentation and enter formulas into internal systems.
Develop and prepare laboratory prototypes for testing and evaluation.
Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, external laboratories, and consultants.
Identify and implement process improvements, including automation and cost-saving initiatives.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nutrition, Culinary Science, or a related field.
Up to two years of experience in food research and development (internship or quality experience preferred).
Knowledge of FDA, USDA, and GMP regulations for food manufacturing.
Experience with product development in a food manufacturing environment is desirable.
Familiarity with sensory evaluation techniques.
Understanding of leavening ingredient functionality and interactions.
