Scope of Position
Our client is seeking an Occupational Safety & Industrial Hygiene Specialist. This role involves managing and enhancing occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while supporting health and safety for all stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Program Management and Hazard Control :
Oversee the Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene (OH / IH) programs, including hazard identification, evaluation, control, and monitoring.
Conduct air and noise monitoring to ensure workplace safety.
Maintain sampling equipment to ensure proper certification and calibration.
Auditing and Compliance :
Perform internal audits and inspections to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations.
Regularly review and update safety and health programs for compliance and continuous improvement.
Communicate findings, reports, and remedies effectively to management, employees, and external stakeholders.
Stakeholder Collaboration :
Coordinate safety initiatives with internal safety teams, contractors, and stakeholders to support safe operations and compliance.
Serve as the technical representative for the IH program, prioritizing activities and managing associated risks.
Training and Development :
Develop and deliver safety and health training to employees and management.
Foster awareness and education on safety protocols, hazard controls, and compliance standards.
Incident Response and Reporting :
Support incident reporting, investigation, and resolution with an emphasis on root cause analysis and corrective action.
Maintain accurate records of incidents, monitoring results, and compliance activities.
Continuous Improvement :
Drive opportunities to improve IH program performance, data quality, and operational value.
Support site initiatives with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency improvements.
Required Qualifications :
Education & Experience : Bachelors degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, with 2 years of experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Technical Expertise : Proficiency in industrial hygiene sampling, chemical management, ergonomics, air / noise monitoring, hazard analysis, and exposure controls.
Communication : Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data to diverse audiences effectively.
Collaboration : Proven ability to facilitate meetings and workgroups, with a focus on teamwork and independent initiative.
Regulatory Knowledge : Familiarity with OSHA safety and health regulations, particularly in maritime environments.
Technical Skills : Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) management systems.
Shipyard Environment : Ability to work in a shipyard or heavy manufacturing setting.
Travel : Availability for occasional travel (up to 10%).
