What are the responsibilities and job description for the PART TIME PLUMBING/BUILDING INSPECTOR position at Peoria County?
Performs inspection work in securing and maintaining substantial compliance with codes and standards governing newly installed residential and commercial plumbing systems, and general building inspections. Plumbing inspector examines plumbing systems, water supply and distribution systems, plumbing fixtures and traps, and drain, waste, and vent lines. Reviews plans and subsequent inspection of buildings in the course of construction, alterations or repair to determine if plans, workmanship and materials conform with all existing code requirements. Prepares written reports and maintains records of work performed.
Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school or completion of a related apprenticeship program; and, four to six years of progressively responsible related construction experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education, training and related construction experience. Must have demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques of building construction and building code enforcement, municipal building codes and related issues. Must be familiar with all applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations. May be required to hold and maintain a valid Illinois Department of Public Health Plumber’s License, at discretion of Director of Planning & Zoning. Must have a valid Illinois driver's license. Must be able to organize workload, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and work under minimum supervision. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as building construction plans, blueprints, safety rules, procedure manuals, etc. Must be familiar with all computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
