What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Specialist Zoo (Part-Time) position at Peoria Park District?
Duties: Under the close supervision of the Assistant Zoo Director/Collections Curator, the Data Specialist - Zoo is responsible for the following:
- Coordinating animal record keeping ensuring the accurate permanent record and documentation of animal identification, behavior, diet, necropsy, training information, etc.
- Providing information regarding animal records both internally and to outside institutions.
- Aiding in the arrangement of animal shipments; including the distribution of animal transaction paperwork.
- Conducting periodic data reviews to ensure high standards of animal record keeping.
- Helping create, conduct and analyze guest surveys.
- Performing special data projects as assigned by the Collections Curator.
- Aiding in the preparation of grant proposals.
- Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the Park District safety program.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions: The work requires periodic physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials typically found within a zoological environment. Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and the ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds will be required on an as-needed basis. Must have the ability to manipulate keyboard, phone, and fax machine. The indoor work setting is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Outdoor work will expose the incumbent to a wide range of weather patterns and environmental surroundings.
Education: A bachelors degree is preferred. Although a degree is preferred, experience in a similar position with similar duties and responsibilities may be substituted for all or part of the education preference.
Experience: A minimum of three years of experience working with computers including email management, internet and electronic records/file management.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Must be able to demonstrate proficient communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work with staff who occupy positions at various levels throughout the organization.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of basic zoology or biology helpful.
- Ability to collect and collate information from a variety of sources into concise and accurate reports.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
