Description
Duties: Under the supervision of the Chief of Park Police, the Park Patrol Officer – Part-Time will be responsible for the following:
- Motorized or foot patrol of park areas and facilities as assigned.
- Enforcement of all park rules, regulations, and ordinances as well as state and federal statutes.
- Completes all criminal and non-criminal park police reports as assigned and thoroughly documents all criminal complaints.
- Provides the best police and customer service to our park patrons in their use of the park areas and facilities.
- Inspects all facilities and areas to ensure the safety of all patrons.
- Addresses all unsafe and/or improper activities and behaviors in a professional manner.
- Promptly referring unsafe conditions to proper Park division(s).
- Promotes Park District and Park Police philosophies of service to the visiting public.
- Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions: Must be in excellent physical and mental health. Able to pass physical examination and physical agility tests. No color blindness, vision corrected to 20/20 for both eyes. The work requires periodic physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials relative to the services rendered. Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping, and ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Must successfully complete state mandatory basic training requirements prescribed by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Board. Must successfully complete the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Board’s comprehensive examination given at the conclusion of the mandatory training.
Experience: Must have established work history of positive interaction with all members of the community, whether at work, school, or volunteer settings.
Certification: Basic Training Certification – Illinois Local Government Law Enforcement Officers Training Board. CPR/AED and First Aid certified.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Thorough knowledge of all the laws of the city, county, and state.
- Thorough knowledge of all safety practices.
- Understanding of park district goals, objectives, programs, and standards of performance.
- Ability to follow instructions and work harmoniously with other employees.
- Ability to instruct personnel in safety matters.
- Ability to handle emergencies and administer first aid.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Requires a valid Illinois State Driver’s License.
- Must be able to successfully complete physical and psychological examinations.
