Duties: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of RiverPlex & Aquatics, the RiverPlex Maintenance Repairman is responsible for:
- Performs daily facility cleaning and maintenance as required by program schedules and other maintenance staff schedules.
- Assists in planning, developing, and implementing staff training procedures as they relate to maintenance functions.
- Performs general maintenance and repair of building systems and performs simple repairs to building fixtures and equipment.
- Transports and sets up equipment and furniture according to program schedules.
- Assists in the evaluation of daily checklists and maintenance procedures.
- Recommends improved maintenance techniques and procedures based on experience.
- Monitors and makes non-technical adjustments to the building's heating and cooling systems.
- Performs general day-to-day maintenance and repair of pool filter systems.
- Instructs and monitors part-time and seasonal employees in their use of pool mechanical systems such as chlorine feed systems, filters, etc.
- Oversees the maintenance of aquatic water slides.
- Monitors and makes simple repairs or adjustments to building electrical systems.
- Troubleshoots problems with quality water or mechanical systems.
- Performs a variety of building alteration functions including minor carpentry, painting, and the installation of equipment and appliances; performs simple repairs to building, grounds, and minor masonry work.
- Maintains inventory of maintenance and follows appropriate ordering procedures.
- Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
- Performs other duties as assigned:
- which are reasonably related to the duties described; or
- which need to be performed promptly to avoid safety hazards or to protect Park District property; or
- which are not generally described in other job descriptions; or
- when the amount of work exceeds the availability of Park District employees within the appropriate job classification.
Pay Scale: Apprentice Rate: $24.01 per hour; After 3 months, base pay: $30.01 per hour. Maximum pay rate is $32.01 per hour.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to reach, walk, pull, kneel, squat and bend at the waist and knees.
- Ability to manipulate tools as needed to complete job duties.
- Ability to operate vibratory tools as needed to complete job duties.
- Ability to balance on ladders and uneven surfaces.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to distinguish colors relative to electrical wiring.
- Ability to detect noxious odors relative to job duties.
- Ability to understand and complete record keeping and paperwork relative to job duties.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Working knowledge of general maintenance and repair procedures and practices. Requires possession of a valid Illinois Vehicle Operator’s License in the appropriate classification required by law.
Certification: Ability to complete the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Aquatic Facility Operator course or equivalent course.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and follow simple drawings and sketches pertaining to repair and maintenance activities.
- Ability to effectively utilize the standard tools and equipment used in general maintenance and repair.
- Ability to monitor and make non-technical adjustments to the building's heating and cooling systems.
- Ability to monitor building electrical systems.
- Ability to repair and maintain building fixtures and equipment.
- Ability to perform simple building alteration functions involving carpentry, painting, and masonry work.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to perform routine groundskeeping functions, including snow removal.
- Ability to operate the boiler, pool filter, and vacuum systems and make minor repairs to include start-up and shut down of systems as needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Working knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials used in building maintenance and repair.
- Working knowledge of swimming pool filtration and chemical systems is preferred.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees in an enthusiastic and cooperative manner.
- This position is represented by the Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 165.
