Description
Duties: Under the direction of the Manager of Athletics and Recreation Services, the Yoga Instructor is responsible for the following:
- Create a curriculum and lead groups through various levels and types of yoga practice.
- Provide proper sequencing in class to ensure a smooth, fluid session.
- Demonstrate proper technique and practices.
- Lead students on proper breathing techniques, stretching poses, practice meditation, and promote mindfulness in addition to overall well-being.
- Help students achieve proper alignment.
- Assess students to determine their level of practice.
- Work with students on fitness goals and progress.
- Motivate students with words of encouragement.
- Ensure the studio is set up correctly for class.
- Engage in administrative duties.
- Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; support all aspects of the Park District’s safety procedures.
- Perform all other duties as required.
Classes are offered Monday and Wednesday mornings with subbing available Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Essential Functions: The work requires periodic physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials relative to the services rendered. Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds each leg of a repetitive unloading/re-loading process is required on a periodic basis. The programmed activities involve risks that are typically associated with athletic and fitness services or events, thus requiring normal safety precautions typical of the sports and fitness industry. Exposure to power requirements, chemicals, and various hand tools relative to athletic facility maintenance may be periodically required. The indoor work environment is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
Qualifications
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent.
Certification: Must have a current yoga certification. Ability to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR (free certification available at Peoria Park District upon hiring).
Experience: At least 1-3 years of yoga instructor experience is preferred.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Must always be calm and exude positive energy during sessions.
- Ability to work after-hours and weekends, as needed.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
