Position Purpose:
This is a work experience summer youth seasonal position. He/She will work as an assistant to the Natural Resources Department staff. Must be Native American to qualify for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Cleaning ponds at the fish hatchery and other related hatchery maintenance tasks.
· Feeding fish, water checks, cleaning indoor tanks, and other related tasks.
· Assisting with freshwater mussel program, research, and daily duties
· Land maintenance such as mowing, weed eating, picking up rocks, etc
· Resource management work
· Observe/assist in the propagation of Freshwater Mussels
· Observe/assist in the spawning of fish.
· Observe/assist in NRCS programs.
· Observe/assist with hatchery upkeep management and fish feeding.
· Observe/assist with 106 sampling.
· Observe/assist with land and resource management.
· Observe/assist, when possible, with fish and wildlife
· Willingness to learn new things and how to use equipment if necessary.
· Observe and participate in the care of the greenhouse, nursery plants, and greenhouse property.
· Ability to stay on task.
· Motivated, self-starter, able to carry out required tasks as assigned by supervisor.
· Punctual, maintains good attendance.
· Maintain accurate files and records.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
· Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. College hours with a strong emphasis on science are desirable.

Certifications:

Work Requirements:
Position involves prolonged standing, sitting, stooping, or bending, lifting, or carrying up to 50 pounds on a daily basis. Work is generally performed outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures. This is a very labor-intensive position in outdoor weather conditions.
