About the Program
For over 20 years, the PEP Program has provided a transformational learning experience for students with demonstrated financial need in Summit, New Jersey. Now serving 50 students in grades 7 through 12 and supporting an additional 30 students in college, the PEP Program is a college-access program that offers academic support, social-emotional learning activities, and college support to select motivated students from Summit Public Schools. The program includes subject-based tutoring, study skills and test preparation, character development, cultural enrichment, ongoing post-graduate support, and career readiness. The PEP Program also instills a sense of civic responsibility by requiring students to complete annual community service hours.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Mathematics Teacher to join our Summer Academic Enrichment Program. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop a strong understanding of mathematical concepts and foster a love for learning. This position requires a commitment to creating an engaging classroom environment that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.
Duties
- Develop and implement lesson plans for 35-minute classes.
- Teach mathematical concepts ranging from introduction to pre-algebra to algebra 1, ensuring clarity and comprehension.
- Assess student progress through the administration of diagnostic and formative assessments.
- Create a positive classroom atmosphere that promotes respect, collaboration, and active participation.
Additional Information
- Start/End Date: Monday, June 30, 2025 through Friday, July 18, 2025
- Days & Time: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:35 p.m., with 35-minute class times and a 30-minute lunch. Two 35-minute preps per day are also built-in.
- Number of Days: 13 days (off for July 3 and July 4 for Independence Day)
- Class Size: Each class will be no more than four students at a time.
- Curriculum: The instructor would have to teach topics featured in Intro to Pre-Algebra 7, Intro to Pre-Algebra 7 Enriched, Intro to Pre-Algebra 8, Intro to Foundations of Algebra, and Intro to Algebra 1.
- Compensation: The total compensation for the 13 days will be $3,250.
Qualifications
- Strong background in mathematics education and tutoring
- Experience working with students in a summer program setting
- Ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with diverse learning styles and instructional strategies
- A relevant university degree in Mathematics or Education is preferred
