Job Description
The Delivery Route Driver Trainee is an entry-level position designed to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a fully qualified Delivery Route Driver. Reporting to the Territory Manager, this role involves assisting with product deliveries to micro-markets and vending machines across Pepi Foods’ five-state service area, learning route operations, and supporting inventory restocking under supervision. The Trainee focuses on mastering safe driving practices, customer service, and operational procedures to ensure a seamless transition into a permanent driver role while upholding Pepi’s commitment to excellence.
Job Responsibilities
Leadership
- Work closely with the Territory Manager and experienced route drivers, contributing to a team environment that reflects Pepi’s core values of service and teamwork.
- Communicate effectively with the Territory Manager to report progress, ask questions, and seek guidance during training on delivery routes.
- Represent Pepi Foods professionally when interacting with clients under supervision, building foundational customer service skills.
Stewardship
- Assist in executing assigned delivery routes, learning to transport products to micro-markets and vending machines according to schedules and planograms.
- Support the restocking of micro-markets and vending machines with inventory, practicing proper product placement, rotation, and cleanliness under guidance.
- Observe and assist with basic maintenance checks on delivery vehicles and vending equipment, reporting issues to the Territory Manager as trained.
- Learn to maintain accurate delivery logs and inventory records, shadowing experienced drivers to ensure proper documentation practices.
Compliance
- Maintain a clean driving record and adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company safety policies, and local traffic laws while training in delivery vehicles.
- Follow food safety standards and handling protocols when assisting with perishable goods, learning compliance with health regulations.
- Ensure all training activities align with Pepi’s “Gold Standard” for quality, timeliness, and customer readiness, striving to meet these benchmarks.
- Participate in safety training and adhere to OSHA guidelines for lifting, loading, and equipment use, building habits for a safe work environment.

Job Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus but not mandatory.
Experience:
- 1 years of experience in delivery driving, route-based logistics, or a related field preferred; entry-level candidates with strong driving skills will be considered.
- Familiarity with vending machines, micro-markets, or food service delivery is advantageous but not required.
Skills:
- Strong time management and organizational skills to complete routes efficiently and accurately.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, load/unload vehicles, and perform repetitive tasks in various weather conditions.
- Basic problem-solving skills to address minor delivery or equipment issues on-site.
- Customer service orientation with good communication skills for client interactions.
- Ability to use mobile devices or software for route tracking and inventory management (training provided).
