GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs skilled work of a varied nature in the operation of all types of motorized equipment; does related work as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employee in this class performs a variety of tasks in the operation of multi-purpose equipment requiring a degree of skill, especially in working grades and in operating equipment efficiently and safely. Standard procedures are followed, and the work is inspected periodically for safety, proper completion and economy of operation by a Foreman.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operates heavy equipment, such as motor graders, dozers, and multiaxle dump trucks;
- Plows, salts and sands county, town and state roads;
- Vegetation control, such as mowing along roadways and cutting brush;
- Cleans culverts and maintains bridges as needed;
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance to equipment;
- Does work as required by Working Foreman or Highway Commissioner.
- Must be available for call-in for winter snow and ice removal and other emergency and non-emergency situations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Good knowledge of road work procedures and equipment; skill in the operation of multi-purpose motorized equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments of equipment; thoroughness; dependability; good physical condition. Some experience performing laboring tasks in the operation of road equipment and in road construction of maintenance and completion of a standard high school course; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid Wisconsin Class A,B and C Commercial Driver’s License with air brake, and “N” (tank) endorsement preferred, and good driving record.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Ability to safely lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently is required. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and kneeling required. Ability to work outdoors with exposure to outdoor elements (hot, cold, wet, etc.)

Pay: $24.04 - $27.47 per hour
