Content Marketing Strategist

Pepperland Marketing
Cheshire, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 4/7/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/7/2025

Job Overview

As a Content Marketing Strategist, you will serve as the primary client-facing advisor for higher education clients regarding their content marketing strategy. You will engage regularly with clients through multiple weekly virtual meetings to develop, present, and execute impactful content strategies tailored to their enrollment and brand awareness objectives. You’ll oversee and help to build a talented team of internal and freelance writers, content creators, and producers, setting clear standards, establishing best practices, and continuously refining our processes to ensure Pepperland Marketing delivers exceptional results. You should be eager to position yourself as a thought leader in the industry, helping shape the future of effective content marketing in the higher education space.

You will play a key role in helping clients adopt Pepperland’s multi-modal content strategy—an approach that leverages blog posts, video, podcasts, and social media to deliver personalized, engaging content experiences across channels. You’ll not only coach clients on this methodology, but lead by example by actively contributing to Pepperland’s own content efforts, aimed at educating our audience on best practices and inspiring what’s possible in the higher ed space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Campaign & Editorial Calendar Oversight: Lead the planning and management of quarterly content marketing campaigns integrated with full inbound strategies. Maintain structured editorial calendars that track deliverables, timelines, and dependencies to ensure smooth execution.
  • Client Strategy Development: Engage directly with higher education clients, participating in multiple weekly virtual meetings to define clear, data-driven content marketing strategies aligned with their goals.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee and coordinate a dispersed team of internal specialists and external freelance contributors to ensure timely, high-quality content production.
  • Quality & Standards: Set, document, and maintain rigorous standards and best practices for content production to maintain the highest quality of deliverables.
  • Template & Process Creation: Develop and refine content templates, style guides, workflows, and processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness.
  • Hands-on Content Development: While your primary focus will be on strategy and team leadership, you should be comfortable rolling up your sleeves when needed—drafting content, building content briefs, or refining copy to ensure we meet high standards and deadlines. This will be especially important in the early stages or when onboarding new clients or contributors.
  • Performance Analysis: Regularly analyze and report on content performance metrics, utilizing insights to drive strategic refinements and optimizations.
  • Content Innovation: Stay current with higher education trends, emerging content formats, and tools—including the use of generative AI to streamline research, editing, and ideation—while bringing innovative ideas and tactics to clients.
  • Thought Leadership: Actively participate in industry conversations, conferences, webinars, and forums to enhance Pepperland Marketing’s reputation and visibility.
  • Internal Contribution: Participate in and contribute to Pepperland’s own content marketing efforts, including authoring blog posts, recording videos or podcasts, and collaborating on internal campaigns.
  • Cross-team Collaboration: Work closely with Enrollment Marketing Strategists, SEO Strategists, Client Success Managers, and other team members to ensure holistic marketing strategies and seamless execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 4 years experience in content marketing or strategy, ideally within higher education.
  • Proven experience managing client relationships and advising senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership managing teams of content creators, including freelancers.
  • Exceptional project management skills, capable of balancing multiple client projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices, analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, HubSpot), and content performance measurement.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot or similar marketing automation tools preferred.

Location Considerations

While this is primarily a remote position, we strongly prefer candidates located within reasonable commuting distance (e.g., within approximately a 45-minute drive) of our office in Cheshire, Connecticut. You must be a resident of the state of Connecticut to be considered. The ideal candidate will be open to working onsite once or twice weekly to support in-person collaboration, team-building, and client meetings as needed.
