JOB DESCRIPTION
The Pequannock Health Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse to join our public health team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in promoting community health, preventing disease, and providing education to individuals and families. This position requires a strong commitment to patient care, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of medical terminology and documentation practices. The Public Health Nurse will participate in a variety of activities to support the general operation of the Health Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED
- Coordinates, oversees and performs all Public Health Nursing duties and activities
- Works in cooperation with other divisions within the Health Department and supports all Health Department operations
- Supports Health Education activities and participates in screenings, clinics, events and programs
- Refers cases for other needed medical, social, or mental health services
- Gathers and disseminates public health information and provides aid to community stakeholders, medical professionals, and the public
- Meets and collaborates with groups and agencies engaged in public health activities
- Establishes and maintains essential records and files, including electronic health records
- Keeps current with requirements, policies, procedures and changing trends in public health nursing and disease surveillance
- Keeps current on the continuing education and licensing requirements
- Monitors the Communicable Disease Reporting and Surveillance System (CDRSS). Initiates, conducts and completes investigations and enters reporting in a timely manner for reportable communicable disease cases and elevated childhood blood lead level cases.
- Will learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units
- Will conduct school immunization audits at all schools within our jurisdiction
- Will organize, schedule and conduct Child Health Conference Clinics, including overseeing immunizations in coordination with the Township’s contract physician
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Public Health Nursing Science
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Applicants must possess a current, valid license as a registered professional nurse in the State of New Jersey
- Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey
- Must maintain malpractice insurance
- Must satisfy employer paid physical, drug screen and criminal background check
- NJ residency required by N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70)
- Pursuant to Federal Law, proof of US Citizenship or immigration status will be required upon hire
