Mechanical Designer/Engineer
Position Overview

- Mechanical design for new products and modification to existing products
- Material specification and item entry preparation for the ERP
- Develop vendors and initial sourcing for new components
- SolidWorks fabricated metal modeling and drawing preparation
- SolidWorks assembly modeling and drawing preparation
- SolidWorks 3D printer g-file preparation
- AutoCAD drawing preparation for 2D designs
- Prototype new designs for initial functional/feasibility testing
- Fabricate representative metal parts as needed
- Build prototype panels/cabling/assemblies and perform initial functional testing
- Assemble systems for testing
- Manage a pool of development and loaner equipment used for prototyping and customer testing
- Participate in/Support in-house and remote testing of prototype systems
- Update/revise existing mechanical and electrical designs, 3D models and drawings
- Coordinate with manufacturing and customers on design updates needed
- Research/validate the solution or new material
- Prepare the revised design
- Test as needed
- Manage the Engineering Change Order and Engineering Deviation processes
- Maintain and update BOMs and purchasing system input documentation
- Create material and software item entry forms for ERP entry
- Develop material BOMs for assemblies and systems for drawings and for ERP entry
- Create and validate site designs for installs
- Review customer site designs for feasibility and recommend system equipment and configurations
- Prepare site designs in AutoCAD as needed as deliverables or customer reference use
- Create and Maintain Hardware documentation
- Create system Operator Manuals for customer and internal use
- Create documentation for non-material topics such as software/networking guidance
- Create preliminary system and component Test WI’s
- Create preliminary instructions for manufacturing processes like 3D printing
- Coordinate with manufacturing production of assembly and kitting procedures
- Manage revision control of all relevant documentation
- Training for consultants & staff
- Produce customer/system-specific training guides for current or new systems
- Train customer technicians on site or in-house when requested
- Produce deliverable training materials for customer internal use as needed
- Maintain training files and documentation
- Work with operations to clarify testing, production and build issues
- Review and approve manufacturing work orders
- Gain familiarity with the customer or internal project
- Consult with the work order composer on any potential issues
- Review for completeness for the project
- Serve as technical liaison for customers on request and assist Customer Service in resolving field issues
- Serve as technical liaison for certification agency inspectors (CSA)
- Maintain cognizance of current agency approval requirements
- Create and update designs to meet agency requirements
- Coordinate with agency inspectors
- Coordinate and participate in 3party testing such as CE or FCC as needed
- Assist sales staff and program manager
- Review quotes prior to sales sending to customers
- Evaluate customer-provided site information to establish feasibility and recommend equipment
- Participate in meetings with customers, some recurring and as needed
- Assist with evaluation of performance issues
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Applicable field - Preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in design work
- Experience with AutoCad and Solidworks
- Experience with ERP systems and maintaining BOMs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong multitasking skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering.
