What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Area Attendant-Houseperson position at Peregrine Hospitality?
Position Summary
As a Public Area Attendant, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and attractive public area appearance while providing attentive, courteous and efficient service to all guests. As a Houseperson you will assist the Room Attendants, stripping rooms, remove trash, stocking linen closets.
Essential Functions
- Maintains supply levels in the public areas, toilet paper, and Kleenex.
- Maintains and cleans all public washrooms, checking twice each hour.
- Makes routine checks of all public areas to ensure cleanliness. Empties ash urns.
- Dust all tables, lamps, and ledges in all public areas and corridors.
- Maintains the cleanliness of all windows, glass, and doors in public areas.
- Checks guest elevators, clean carpets, and polishes metals as necessary. Maintains elevator tracks.
- Performs cleaning tasks in public areas, including vacuuming, sweeping, moping, and collecting garbage.
- Assists guests and other staff members as needed.

- Understand the mission, vision, and goals of the hotel
- Must be able to prioritize and work efficiently with limited supervision
- Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task efficiently
- Must be able to speak, understand, and communicate the primary language(s) used in the workplace
- Must possess excellent communication, follow-up, and organization
- Must have the ability to push, pull bend, squat, and lift regularly
- Use of PPE as needed for duty assigned and with the use of required tools and equipment
- Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy; prioritize, organize, and follow up
- Be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment
- Follow directions thoroughly; understand a guest’s service needs; work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
Job Qualifications/Requirements
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalence
Experience: Prior experience in a similar role. Hotel experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
The minimum physical requirements for this position include but are not limited to:
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds frequently to assist guests
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to hear, understand and communicate orally and in writing to communicate with staff, vendors, and guests a normal in-person and phone conversation
- Ability to bend and twist, push, and pull, stoop, and kneel
- Ascend and descend a ladder
