Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Technician to lead health and safety initiatives at our manufacturing facility in Othello, WA. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations, fostering a culture of workplace safety, and implementing policies that minimize risks and hazards. The Safety Technician will collaborate with leadership and employees to develop training programs, conduct safety audits, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

Responsibilities

Safety Program Development & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies in compliance with IFTA, OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain and update the company’s Safety Manual, ensuring alignment with the latest industry regulations.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies during audits, inspections, and compliance checks.

Training & Employee Engagement

  • Lead safety training programs, including new employee orientations, hazard communication, and emergency response drills.
  • Develop and deliver ongoing training sessions on workplace safety best practices, ensuring employees understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Monitor and track safety performance metrics, reporting key findings to plant management.
  • Manage worker’s compensation claims, working closely with HR and regulatory agencies to ensure proper documentation and resolution.
  • Analyze safety data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.

Risk Mitigation & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with maintenance and operations teams to ensure equipment and facilities meet safety standards.
  • Develop emergency preparedness plans and oversee the execution of safety drills.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative safety solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field ( high school diploma or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of safety management experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of IFTA, OSHA, EPA, and other federal and state safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and safety management software.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and lead root cause analysis.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and machinery.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and conduct physical inspections in various plant areas.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs and wear required PPE (personal protective equipment).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
