What are the responsibilities and job description for the Arborist/Applicator position at Perficut?
Position Overview
The Arborist/Applicator role requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in arboriculture operations. This employee is responsible for tree trimming services including pruning, removing broken limbs, repairing or removing damaged trees, and stump grinding. Applicator duties include conducting tree health services such as identification of tree species, identifying tree diseases, pests, and growth issues, and applying appropriate pesticides.
Employees in this role are encouraged to increase their knowledge and skills to acquire or maintain the ISA Certified Arborist® classification. Perficut offers Continuing Education for employees already certified and can assist personnel in preparing for the Certified Arborist exam.

Day-to-Day Stuff
- Perform work requested by the Tree Production Manager, in the timeframe required, to the level of professionalism expected by members of Team Perficut
- Assist in training Tree Groundsmen in tree pruning, removal, and basic knots
- Report progress and obstacles to the Production Manager
- Interact with clients to ensure proper delivery of expected service
- Perform all work in a timely manner adhering to quality and safety standards
- Perform just-in-time, light maintenance on equipment, as needed, in the field
- Communicate professionally with clients and co-workers
- Demonstrate leadership within the company as well as within the Tree department
- Assist other departments to the best of your ability as needed
- Other duties assigned
Characteristics Needed to Succeed
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of arboriculture experience
- Class A CDL preferred or the ability to acquire within 45 days of hire
- Must be eligible for coverage on the company’s auto insurance policy
- Current Iowa Pesticide Applicators Certification 3OT preferred or ability to acquire within 30 days of hire
- Full competency in the use of chainsaws, chippers, and pole saws
- Ability to operate a boom truck vehicle
- Proficiency in tree rigging
- Ability to climb a tree without spikes using only a rope and saddle
- Ability to accurately identify common tree species in Iowa
- Ability to identify tree diseases, pests, and growth issues
- Crane removal experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and with a team
- Ability to learn how to use tools and equipment meeting operational safety standards.
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions; exposure to physical elements including heat and cold.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours as needed.
- This position requires snow removal during the winter season.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day with the ability to be mobile throughout required work areas. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 75 lbs. The employee will be required to generate up to 100 lbs of push/pull force when maneuvering various equipment/supplies. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
