Job Description: Forklift Operator – Shipping Department

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to join our Shipping Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the efficient and accurate movement, loading, and unloading of goods and materials using a forklift. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively with the shipping team to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Material Handling: Safely operate forklifts to load, unload, and transport materials within the shipping and receiving areas.
• Order Fulfillment: Ensure accurate picking, staging, and loading of shipments based on customer orders and schedules.
• Inventory Management: Assist with stock rotation, maintaining inventory accuracy, and organizing materials in the warehouse.
• Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of forklifts to ensure they are in safe operating condition. Report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to company and OSHA safety standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe driving practices.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of materials moved, shipments processed, and any discrepancies noted during operations.
• Collaboration: Work closely with team members and supervisors to meet shipping schedules and address operational challenges.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a forklift operator, preferably in a shipping or warehouse environment.
• Valid forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification prior to employment.
• Familiarity with shipping documentation, including packing slips, bills of lading, and inventory systems.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
• Physical ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
• Basic computer skills are a plus.

Working Conditions:

• Warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures.
• Fast-paced setting with frequent lifting, bending, and operating heavy machinery.
• May require overtime or flexible scheduling during peak shipping periods.
