Job Description: Forklift Operator – Shipping Department
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to join our Shipping Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the efficient and accurate movement, loading, and unloading of goods and materials using a forklift. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively with the shipping team to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Handling: Safely operate forklifts to load, unload, and transport materials within the shipping and receiving areas.
- Order Fulfillment: Ensure accurate picking, staging, and loading of shipments based on customer orders and schedules.
- Inventory Management: Assist with stock rotation, maintaining inventory accuracy, and organizing materials in the warehouse.
- Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of forklifts to ensure they are in safe operating condition. Report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to company and OSHA safety standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe driving practices.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of materials moved, shipments processed, and any discrepancies noted during operations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with team members and supervisors to meet shipping schedules and address operational challenges.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a forklift operator, preferably in a shipping or warehouse environment.
- Valid forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification prior to employment.
- Familiarity with shipping documentation, including packing slips, bills of lading, and inventory systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Basic computer skills are a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures.
- Fast-paced setting with frequent lifting, bending, and operating heavy machinery.
