Job Overview:

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Yard Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operations of our yard. This role involves operating equipment, optimizing efficiency, and maintaining the functionality and safety of the yard. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a commitment to safety, and experience in equipment operation and yard management.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Operation:

• Operate an end loader to assist in feeding machinery as needed.
• Coordinate and monitor the performance of yard equipment, including forwarders and yard spotters, ensuring optimal efficiency.
• Track and manage trailer weights during loading with sawdust or wood chips to maintain compliance with safety and transportation regulations.

Yard Maintenance:

• Ensure the yard is well-maintained, including the upkeep of roads, log yard areas, and trailer storage spaces.
• Identify and address maintenance needs promptly to support smooth operations and prevent downtime.

Operational Efficiency:

• Work closely with the operations team to optimize workflows and minimize delays.
• Monitor and report on equipment performance, suggesting improvements where needed.

Safety and Compliance:

• Adhere to all safety guidelines and promote a culture of safety within the yard.
• Conduct regular inspections of equipment and yard areas to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.

Communication:

• Maintain regular communication with the transportation team to coordinate trailer movements, loading schedules, and ensure timely dispatch.
• Act as a liaison between yard operations and transportation to address any logistical challenges effectively.

Inventory and Yard Log Management:

• Scale all log trucks getting delivered.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date yard logs, including detailed records of incoming and outgoing materials, equipment usage, and trailer movements.
• Regularly conduct inventory checks to ensure an accurate count of materials, such as logs, specified trailers, sawdust, and wood chips.
• Generate and share inventory reports with relevant teams to support operational planning and decision-making.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in yard operations or a similar role.
• Proficiency in operating heavy machinery such as end loaders, forwarders, and yard spotters.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in yard operations.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and other departments.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Capability to operate machinery and work in a physically demanding environment.

Schedule:

• Full-time position with flexible scheduling to meet operational needs.
