Manages all aspects of the transportation function in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment, including selection of qualified drivers, routing, driving, safety, unloading, fleet maintenance, customer/driver relationships, and Department of Transportation (DOT) and Operating Company (OpCo) compliance. Includes involvement with the driver selection and orientation process, handling employee relations issues including disciplinary action, monitoring DOT and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) compliance, managing Transportation Managers & Supervisors and monitoring the routing process to ensure customer satisfaction. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company.
Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
4-6 Years of Transportation experience including in-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and experience with operations of computerized fleet management systems.
Management experience.

Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
- Oversees Managers and Supervisors in Transportation to ensure deliveries are made in a safe, efficient and timely manner, maintaining compliance, dependability and ensuring customer satisfaction. Areas include, but not limited to:
- Compliance with all Federal, State, Local & Company rules and regulations
- Ensure all Associates prioritize safe work habits in all aspects of their positions – meet annual safety goals
- Manage department expenses – payroll, expense reports, maintenance & fuel contracts, equipment needs (purchase, lease, rent), route optimization analysis - to meet or exceed financial targets
- Ensure Transportation staff are focused on Service Excellence, visit customers on an as needed basis. Recommend ways to improve operational strategies and processes based upon knowledge of the food distribution industry.
- Assist with resolving Associate issues and ensures Associate retention is maintained at acceptable levels, assist with recruiting new Associates. Ensures that corrective action is taken timely and consistently.
- Access various software platforms to pull information necessary for decision making
- Prepares annual transportation operating budget; performs cost analyses (e.g., truck leases, fuel consumption, etc.) and coordinates financial reporting timely
- Forecast equipment & staff needs on an ongoing basis, plans for unexpected events such as storms.
- Works closely with Warehouse Managers & other departments to ensure the highest level of efficiency within the operation. Change work schedule as needed to ensure support of the business is maintained.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
