Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Summary: This position is responsible for following instructions as given by the Maintenance Supervisor, including performing repairs on machinery as necessary. The essential functions of the job and responsibilities are listed below.
- Responds to maintenance requests.
- Troubleshoots plant equipment and tools.
- Helps maintain maintenance inventory system.
- Involved with Safety Program.
- Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
- Identifies and repairs mechanical problems with equipment, tools, belts, and the physical structure of the establishment. Also, repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Dismantles defective machines and equipment, installing new or repaired parts as necessary.
- Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction, cooperates to diagnose problem.
- Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment.
- Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery, including dusting and removing waste material from machines.
- Maintains HVAC system, work area cleanliness, tools and equipment.
- Bends and cuts conduit and wire, drills holes in walls, floors and ceilings, and threads and seals pipe joints with sealing components.
- Sets up and operates; lathe, grinder, welding equipment, drill, milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures.
- Performs preventative maintenance according to schedules & is responsible for maintaining preventative maintenance program.
- Cooperates with company policies to complete jobs.
Skill Requirements
- Ensures operation of machinery and equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, trailers, following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Ability to answer mechanical maintenance questions as posed by maintenance employees.
- Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
- Education & Experience
- Certificate from college or technical school; or 3-5 years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Communication Skills
- Ability to read & interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present data before groups of employees.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
- Computer Skills
- Knowledgeable in the use of computers, including the ability to enter information into Microsoft Excel, use Microsoft Word, and other programs as required.
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to think outside the box.
