OVERVIEW & SUMMARY
This position plays a key role in managing and coordinating the activities of transportation operations through optimum use of equipment, facilities, and personnel, including assigning motor vehicles and conveyance of freight by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Transportation Operations
Planning, assigning and coordinating loads/routes/shipments for all areas of Performance Corp. in connection with production/manufacturing to meet customer needs
o Prepare Daily Schedule of loads and communicate any changes with the department.
o Maximize service and utilization of equipment while providing 100% customer service
o Establishes delivery and pick up routes and determines most efficient and economical routing.
o Achieve budgeted departmental targets for key performance indicators.
Collaborate with the onsite maintenance team to ensure that vehicles are regularly inspected and properly maintained.
Stay informed about changes to DOT regulations and ensure drivers and company policies are updated accordingly.
Maintain effective use of the Samsara system, identifying potential efficiency or communication improvements and/or data that can be utilized to better understand and coordinate the activities of the department
Carryout the renewal of Transportation related licenses, permits and registrations
Run regularly scheduled reports to review safety results of the company, reporting to management and reacting to such scores by installing policies, or communicating with drivers for improvement.
Process pick up requests from customers throughout each day
Secure carrier freight to match our customer and/or load needs through communicating with carriers/brokers; providing lowest cost options to deliver Performance products to customers
As needed, secure broker loads to match needed front/back hauls
Driver Supervision
Oversee the daily activities of company drivers, including scheduling, dispatching, and performance management.
Ensure all drivers adhere to DOT regulations, including hours of service (HOS), safety standards, maintaining proper documentation (logs, licenses, certifications), completing DOT random tests as required.
Track and report on driver performance metrics such as on-time delivery, fuel efficiency, and safety records. Implement improvement plans when necessary.
Foster a positive working relationship with drivers through regular communication, conflict resolution, and addressing concerns. Ensure drivers are informed of company policies and procedures.
Coordinate with drivers and safety personnel to ensure timely and accurate reporting of accidents or incidents. Facilitate accident investigations and corrective actions.
Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new drivers. Develop and implement retention strategies to maintain driver satisfaction and reduce turnover.
Manage the driver phone during off-shift hours to assist drivers with issues that occur on nights/weekends
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
Education & Experience
o Degree from 2 Year Technical College or equivalent experience.
Communication Skills
o Ability to read & interpret documents such safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
o Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present data before groups of employees.
o Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
o Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
o Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
o Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Computer Skills
o Knowledgeable in the use of computers, including the ability to enter information into Microsoft Excel, use Microsoft Word, and other programs as required.
Reasoning Ability
o Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
